Energy storage technologies have witnessed many transformations over the last century. Amidst all the advances in modular, scalable, and mobile energy storage, the use case for micro-grids is becoming more critical to the overall infrastructure due to natural disasters, energy disruptions, and areas of grid instability.

St. Louis-based Regent Power partnered with one of the first engineering/design companies for large-scale energy storage, Toronto-based eCAMION. “We entered the energy storage game early, and it has paid off in spades,” said eCAMION president Carmine Pizzurro. “We have proven systems in the field since 2009, over-performing spec and with zero failures to date. Our first integrated BESS, installed on a distribution system, is still in use today; a unit beside a community center, so safety was paramount.”

Carmine’s engineering and manufacturing expertise allows Regent to deliver proven energy storage solutions including pole top utility systems, anti-idling retrofits, community energy storage, and DC microgrids. The latest addition is the fastest DC electric vehicle charging system with energy storage for maximum efficiency and the added benefit of providing a mobile emergency generator for mobile utilization during a natural disaster or crisis.

“Our energy output per kWh is unparalleled,” says Laura Jones, CEO and Founder of Regent Power. “Our 250-kWh system supports 500 kWh of power. At a 1C discharge rate, our systems have extraordinary life. We offer 40,000 cycles at 1C and expected lifetime is 20 to 30 years on average. We also offer systems that are at 4-5C rate for those customers that need it. This is especially important in our EV Fast Charging systems.”

“Through the addition of energy storage supported charging stations, we dramatically reduce charge lag time when multiple EVs are charging, reducing grid demand.”

Additionally, they offer stability and maintain resiliency during high demand periods while peak leveling/ shaving drives down operating costs. eCAMION is installing systems across the Trans-Canadian Highway; Regent is integrating installations across the U.S.

Our design saves energy costs and maximizes efficiency when several vehicles are charging at once. The bonus to the community is that we are agnostic and serve all EV models—BMW, Nissan, Chevrolet, Tesla, Ford, KIA, and other manufacturers entering the market

Drawing a complete picture of Regent’s value proposition in the storage and charging solutions space, the energy storage component is the key to the extraordinary EV charging performance piece. “The ultimate bonus to the community is that we are manufacturer agnostic and serve all EV models— BMW, Nissan, Chevrolet, Ford, KIA, and the other manufacturers entering the market,” says Laura, “By using proprietary DC-DC approach with the energy storage component, we combine ultra-fast charging without the need to upgrade the existing grid infrastructure, and the benefit of extra mobile energy in emergency situations.”

The company has proven expertise in renewable energy integration—from smaller-scale commercial and industrial to megawatt-scale grid-level projects and DC micro-grids. “Regent looks forward to the implementation of our U.S. manufacturing facility, bringing jobs into the US and supporting the demand of increasing EVs.”

With Smart City LED Streetlights, gunshot detection, traffic analytics, V2X communications, and camera surveillance, having backup power is critical for round the clock operation. The inclusion of micro-grids for energy security and sustainability is more critical than ever. “As we integrate more electronic devices and EVs, the need for backup storage increases. Regent Power believes that flexible open-platform and expandable solutions are the keys to a cleaner, smarter relationship with energy.”
